The basil
It needs a lot of light and water, and it grows easily both indoors and outdoors. It is a very delicate plant that cannot stand the cold: in the warm seasons it grows well also on the balcony or on the terrace, but in the winter months it must be moved into the house.
The parsley
This aromatic herb is known to be an excellent seasoner of many dishes. Its cultivation is very easy, as it grows rapidly and in abundance throughout the year, except for the colder months from January to March.
Both basil and parsley need to be replanted periodically, so they cannot share the pot with other herbs. But when they’re planted together, they’ll both grow up very well and be good roommates.
The rosemary
It is one of the most common aromas in Italian kitchens, perfect for meat dishes, legumes, and potatoes. It is very resistant to heat and cold, so it is very easy to grow. Rosemary shrubs can also become very large, developing long and strong roots. That’s why it needs a big vase to keep to itself.

The sage
It is a perennial and evergreen aromatic herb, typical of the Mediterranean flora that grows luxuriantly in the warm and sunny climates, even with little water, and for some time it resists well also to the frost. Thanks to its unmistakable aroma, it is one of the most appreciated plants in the kitchen and among the most cultivated outdoors and indoors.
The thyme
This small perennial shrub forms dense and compact bushes, successfully adapts to any type of soil, and requires no special care. It is a very simple aromatic plant to grow at home and has many applications, also as a decorative plant, thanks to its beautiful pink-white little flowers.
Like basil and parsley, thyme and sage are jealous of their own space and cannot be planted with other herbs. However, placed in the same vase, they form an even aesthetically beautiful couple.
The mint
Mint, in addition to having an intense and unmistakable aroma and taste, is one of the easiest and most useful plants to cultivate. Even if it is frost and direct sun sensitive, it is perennial and easily adaptable. As it develops very well in the shaded zones, it is perfect for exploiting those spaces usually not suitable for the other plants. In addition, it naturally keeps several parasites away, with great benefit even for nearby plants. Its roots tend to occupy all the available space, so it needs a vase of its own.
